Confusion in a Wet Nurse Interview

January 7, 2010

Mother: And why did you leave your last job?

Wet Nurse: My employer no longer needed my services.

Mother: Why was that?

Wet Nurse: Because the child no longer required breast milk.

Mother: I see … and was that your decision or the mother’s?

Wet Nurse: Hers, of course.

Mother: And how old was the child?

Wet Nurse: 13 months.

Mother: Is that all?

Wet Nurse: Yes, ma’am.

Mother: How long would you be willing to commit here?

Wet Nurse: I usually stay on until the child is a year old.

Mother: But you stayed for 13 months at your last job?

Wet Nurse: Yes, but that was a special circumstance…

Mother: Are you unwilling, then, to stay past a year?

Wet Nurse: I’m not unwilling, no, but it is best for the child to wean off of breast feeding after 12 months.

Mother: I see.

Wet Nurse: How old is your daughter?

Mother: She’s 15 months.

Wet Nurse: Are you still nursing her?

Mother: We were hoping to start her with you…
