It’s possible that my brother is right, and that his fascination with Greek and Roman films and television programs is just healthy, hetero fun. An action-packed historical elucidation. As he himself is ready to point out, there isn’t that much difference between the Crime Drama and the Sword and Sandal genre. It’s homosocial society, with violence.
But I’ve got to say, there’s something about guys sticking swords into each other that seems gay in a way that pistols–despite their firing off–just can’t manage.
Not that there’s anything wrong with gay. Just, you know, let’s call it what it is.
*Which, of course, means necessarily that it has to be weird.
